Itinerary
This unforgettable Maras Moray tour starts at 09.00 a.m. when we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco city to board the touristic transportation that will take us to the historical village of Maras (1 hour and 15 minutes trip).
In this picturesque village, you could appreciate its unmistakable main square and the house’s stone façades decorated with shields of arms and privileged families. Due to the arrival of the Jesuit order since the 18th century.
Afterwards, we will travel 20 minutes to the archaeological site of Moray, where we will find the only circular agricultural terraces throughout Peru. These farming terraces were used as an Inca agricultural laboratory for the acclimatisation of new plant species brought from different regions of the great Tawantinsuyo.
You will find three deep, rounded terrace systems in the middle of vast plains!
After learning more about Inca technologies for agriculture, we will board again the touristic transportation for 20 minutes until arriving at the salt ponds of Maras.
In this amazing place, there are more than 3000 salt ponds for crystallization, which compose a amazing landscape taken from the best surrealist paintings in the world. In addition, you will be able to see the only salty water stream that feeds all the salt ponds.
Take advantage of this Maras Moray tour to buy some bags of natural salt at fair prices, because you might find them in your country but they will cost much more!
Then, we will begin the returning car ride to Cusco city, although if you want to learn about the techniques of dyeing and weaving with wool from Andean camelids such as llama, alpaca and vicuña, we can make a brief stop in Chinchero district. By the way, at the community textile center, you will have the opportunity to buy souvenirs from the Maras Moray tour.
Finally, we will arrive at your hotel in the city at 14:00 hours. End of our services.
