Itinerary
This exclusive hike to Palccoyo Mountains begins while you board our touristic transportation at your hotel (04:30 a.m.). It will take you for two hours towards southern Cusco until the restaurant in Cusipata town.
Here, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast, prepared with organic goods harvested from the local farming lands. By the way, you can take advantage of this time to buy some snacks or water for the rest of the journey.
Afterwards, we will travel for 30 minutes towards the bridge of Combapata, which boasts the quechua name, Rumichaka (rumi = stone, chaka = bridge). It crosses over the Salcca River, from where the car road will become a dirt road surrounded by mountains and unforgettable landscapes.
After 1 hour and 20 minutes, we will arrive at the check Point of Palccoyo Mountain. Here we will find a great apacheta, which is a small stone tower located in many high Andean places throughout Peru to thank the mountains for their hospitality and welcome.
The trail to our destination will be gentle and short, even on the way you will enjoy panoramic views of the place. And before you knew it, you will have reached the beautiful Palccoyo mountains.
The underground minerals stain the soil to produce the colorful stripes that decorate these Palccoyo Mountains. Therefore, you will appreciate reddish, greenish, white, lilac and golden tones that alternate with each other bringing amazing visual effects.
Meanwhile, if you have an intrepid soul, you can keep hiking through a short and steep path until you reach the impressive stone forest, where you will find huge rocks boasting original shapes. In the background, you will be able to see the great Ausangate snow-capped mountain.

Recommendations
Bring a warm coat (jacket, scarf, gloves…) for cold and windy morning. As well, protection against the sun (hat, sunglasses and sunscreen) owing to at this altitude the sun’s rays are stronger. Always include a rain poncho and candy in your backpack.

- Do I need to acclimatise to the altitude before this trek?
It is always recommended to rest the first day of your arrival at Cusco or take a city tour. Although this hike to Palccoyo mountain is very light and you will not suffer too much from altitude sickness. - Is the Palccoyo Mountain better than the Rainbow mountain – Vinicunca?
Both have their own features and unique landscapes. However, the advantage of the hike to Palccoyo is its short and light trail as well as its lower altitude than Vinicunca mountain. - Can I do this hike to Palccoyo Mountain with children?
Of course you can. Due to the short trail, children will be able to enjoy the scenery surrounded by snow-capped mountains and colorful mountains. They will only need heavy clothing.
